Membership
Players of any orchestral instruments, of all ages and standards, are welcome. There are no auditions, although you will be able to participate more meaningfully if you can play to a minimum of grade 2 or 3 standard.
Many of our members had not played their instrument for some years, perhaps since their school days, but have now picked it up again. The most important factor is to enjoy the music! We expect children under the age of 18 to come to rehearsals, workshops and concerts with a parent or guardian or to be accompanied by another responsible adult.
We encourage potential members to come along to a rehearsal to try us out before committing themselves. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you are coming for the first time – see Contact Us.
Subscription:
£50 per calendar year (free for full-time students) – Pro rata termly rates possible by arrangement
We do not want to exclude anyone who has difficulty paying the subscription, so we offer students and others on low or no incomes concessionary rates or a waiver of the subscription. Anyone wanting to take advantage of this concession should contact our Chairman, Steve Pickard, (see Contact Us) to discuss their situation in confidence.
Hi,
My name is Bronagh. I played violin for 2 years in primary school and Started playing again in January. My reading of sheet music is very rusty so I generally annotate any sheet music I’m practicing. I’d love to practice with the orchestra but I’d like to try it before commuting to a years membership. Would it be okay for me to come along to the next rehearsal?
